Looking to land some serious fish without spending all day on the water? Our half-day guided fishing trip in Boca Grande is just the ticket. We'll get you on the fish fast, targeting everything from hard-fighting King Mackerel to bucket-list Tarpon. With 4-6 hours of prime fishing time, you'll have plenty of chances to feel that rod bend. Whether you're a seasoned angler or it's your first time wetting a line, our experienced captains know how to put you on the fish and make sure everyone has a blast.
We'll meet you at one of our captain's favorite launch spots, chosen based on where the fish are biting that day. Once we push off, it's go-time. We'll spend most of our trip trolling - that's dragging baited lines behind the boat as we cruise. It's a killer method for hooking into the big boys like King Mackerel. When we find a hot spot, we might switch it up and drop lines to target Red Snapper or other bottom-dwellers. No need to worry about gear or licenses - we've got you covered. Just bring some snacks, drinks, and your game face. With room for up to 6 anglers, it's perfect for families, friends, or even a corporate outing.
On this trip, we're all about versatility. We'll primarily use trolling techniques, which is perfect for covering water and finding active fish. We'll set out multiple lines with various lures or live bait, adjusting our speed and depth until we dial in what's working. For species like Grouper or Snapper, we might switch to bottom fishing with heavy tackle and cut bait. If we're lucky enough to spot rolling Tarpon, we'll break out the fly rods or pitch live bait their way. Our captains are pros at reading the water and conditions, so they'll adapt on the fly to maximize your chances of hooking up.
"Our family went fishing with Captain Will over Spring Break. We had such a wonderful trip! Our oldest hooked a once in a lifetime Tarpon and got to fight him to the side of the boat. Captain Will was great with all the boys and made sure everyone had a chance to get in on the fun! We can't wait to come back again next year!" - Melissa K.
"Our family went inshore fishing with captain Will and Clayton on Dec 27 as a Christmas adventure. We had a fantastic day! These guys were great! We weren't sure what to expect as far as catching because of coming out of a cold snap but we had a nice haul of sheepshead and a great day of memory making! I would definitely recommend Family Traditions!!" - Amanda
"Great Charter! Totally reccomend for couples, familes or friends. Capt. Will and his son were amazing. They were super attentive and involved. You can tell they are passionate about what they do. This was my girlfriend's favorite charter in SouthWest Florida. Its always fun to go fishing, but to have the opportunity to catch such respectful fish was priceless. We were blessed by the fishing gods and got a double slam!!! Thanks guys!" - Ryan
Gag Grouper: These bruisers are the heavyweight champs of the reef. Gags love structure, so we'll target them around rocky bottoms and wrecks. They put up a serious fight, often trying to dive back into their hidey-holes. The meat is top-notch, flaky and mild - perfect for a post-trip fish fry. Best fishing is typically October through December, but we catch them year-round.
Tarpon: The Silver King. These prehistoric-looking fish are the holy grail for many anglers. They're famous for their acrobatic jumps and blistering runs. Tarpon in Boca Grande can easily top 100 pounds, giving you the fight of a lifetime. Peak season is May through July, but we see them in good numbers from April through October. Even if you don't land one, just hooking up is an unforgettable experience.
King Mackerel: Speed demons of the Gulf. Kings are known for their blistering first run - when that reel starts screaming, hold on tight! We catch them trolling with live bait or artificial lures. They're here most of the year, but the biggest specimens show up in the fall. Kings make great eating too, especially when smoked.
Redfish: The bulldogs of the flats. Redfish, or Red Drum, are beloved for their strong pulls and willingness to eat just about anything. We target them in shallow water, often sight-fishing for tailing fish. Their copper color with a black spot on the tail is unmistakable. Fall is prime time for big "bull" reds, but we catch them year-round.
Tripletail: The oddball of our target list. These funky-looking fish often float near the surface, mimicking debris. They might look lazy, but hook one and they'll give you a run for your money. Tripletail are fantastic eating fish, with sweet, white meat. We find them around buoys and floating structure, typically in the warmer months.
So there you have it, folks - a half day packed with non-stop fishing action in one of Florida's best inshore spots. Whether you're dreaming of battling a tarpon, filling the cooler with tasty grouper, or just want to bend a rod and make some memories, this trip delivers. Our experienced captains know these waters like the back of their hand and are passionate about putting you on fish. With all gear provided and a convenient 4-6 hour timeframe, it's the perfect way to squeeze in some quality fishing without eating up your whole day. Spots fill up fast, especially during peak seasons, so don't wait. Give us a call or book online to lock in your date. Get ready to make some fishing memories that'll have you itching to come back for more!

Captain Will was great. We brought our granddaughter and her boyfriend fishing and he was wonderful, knowledgeable and helpful. All four of us caught multiple fish and really enjoyed our time on Captain Will's boat. We highly commend booking a charter with Captain Will.

Gag Grouper are a prized catch in Boca Grande, typically weighing 20-30 pounds but can reach up to 80. They're ambush predators, hanging around reefs, wrecks, and rocky bottoms in depths of 60-250 feet. Spring and fall are prime seasons when water temps are in the 65-75°F range. Anglers love targeting gags for their hard-fighting nature and excellent table fare. To catch one, use heavy tackle and drop live bait like pinfish or squid near structure. A local trick is to use a longer leader to keep your line away from their sharp teeth and the rough bottom. Be ready for a battle - once hooked, gags will try to dive back into their rocky lairs. Keep your rod tip up and reel steadily to win the tug-of-war with these powerful fish.

King Mackerel, or "Kingfish," are speed demons of the Gulf, often hitting 30-40 pounds. You'll find them in open water, 20-150 feet deep, usually near bait schools. Spring and fall are prime times when water temps are in the 70s. Anglers love kings for their blistering runs and tasty fillets. To catch one, troll with live bait like blue runners or spoons at various depths. A local trick is to use a stinger rig - a trailing hook that helps snag these toothy predators when they strike short. Keep your drag set light; kings are known for sudden, powerful runs that can snap tight lines. When you hook up, be ready for multiple sizzling runs before you get your fish to the boat. It's fast-paced fishing that'll keep you on your toes all day.

Redfish, our local bruisers, typically run 20-30 inches but can grow over 40. You'll find them in shallow flats, around oyster bars, and in mangrove creeks, often tailing in water so shallow their backs are exposed. Fall is prime time when big schools gather to spawn. Anglers love reds for their strong pulls and copper color with that distinctive tail spot. To catch one, use light tackle and live bait like shrimp or cut mullet. A local tip: look for "nervous water" - slight ripples caused by feeding reds. When sight-casting, lead the fish by a few feet and let your bait sit until they find it. Once hooked, redfish use their broad tails to put up a stubborn fight. It's a mix of stealth and strength that makes redfishing so addictive.

Tarpon, the "Silver King," is a legendary gamefish in Boca Grande. These monsters can reach 8 feet and 280 pounds, but 100-pounders are more common. They're found in coastal waters, often rolling on the surface in passes and around bridges. Peak season is May through July when they migrate through for spawning. Anglers chase tarpon for their spectacular aerial acrobatics and challenging fight. They're not eaten, so it's all about the thrill of the catch. To hook one, use heavy tackle and live bait like mullet or crabs. A local tip: when a tarpon jumps, lower your rod tip to give slack - this helps keep the hook set. Patience is key; these fish can take hours to land. It's a bucket-list experience that'll test your skills and leave you with unforgettable memories.

Tripletail are odd-looking fish that pack a punch, usually 5-15 pounds but can reach 30. You'll spot them near floating debris or channel markers, often lying on their side mimicking leaves. Summer's the best time when they move inshore. Anglers target them for their acrobatic fights and excellent table fare. To catch one, use light tackle and live shrimp or small crabs. A local secret: cast past the fish and slowly retrieve, as they spook easily. When you see one, approach quietly and make a precise cast - they're ambush feeders with a quick strike. Once hooked, tripletail put on an impressive show with jumps and strong runs. It's sight-fishing at its finest, combining stealth, accuracy, and the thrill of the strike all in one package.
